The village of Portmagee in Kerry has changed its name to 'Porgmagee' for the release of The Last Jedi
PORTMAGEE IN CO. Kerry is a fairly small community.
With a population of a few hundred people, it’s a pretty big deal that they were the first town to receive the Fáilte Ireland National Tourism Town Award a few years back. On top of that, they’ve just added a new attraction.
Considering that Skellig Michael is the home of the newest creature in the Star Wars universe (Porgs – inspired by the native puffins on the island), Portmagee, who are a short boat trip away from the island, decided to rename their town in honour of Porgs.

It’s just a temporary gesture for the next fortnight until the movie is finally released.
Patricia Kennedy of the Portmagee Tourism Group told Radio Kerry that the community would be mad not to have put their “thinking caps on” while the “Skelligs were being featured in the biggest movie in the world”, so the group came together and decided to celebrate the debut of the Porgs.
They’ve plenty of tea stocked up in the Portmagee community centre to welcome all visitors who will be coming to see the released of Star Wars too.
